Welcome to the SOMA UK
website |
|
Under the authority of the
Bishop who invites us we seek in compassion and humility to
share teaching and practice and so equip for ministry those
who receive and those who go. While the needs of the Church
are varied, our particular calling is in the area of spiritual
support, to bring refreshment, and to encourage unity and
reconciliation. We are pilgrim people who stand in our
relationship with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and under
the authority of Holy Scripture. On this basis, we seek to
develop and to work within relationships, defined not by text
but by trust, with the rest of the international SOMA family
and all those we serve. |
"SOMA has developed considerable experience in sending teams to assist dioceses in different parts of the world, especially in areas where the church has had to face conflict and shortage of material resources. They take steps to ensure that team members are carefully recruited and trained for the task required. SOMA, with its distinctive renewal perspective, seeks to serve the Anglican Communion in its mission. I warmly commend its work to you"
Most Revd George Carey, former Archbishop |
"I
wholeheartedly commend the work of SOMA (Sharing of
Ministries Abroad) to all Anglican bishops, clergy and
lay ministers. Short term mission teams really do make a
significant difference in bringing about long term
renewal and transformation in communities, churches and
Dioceses across the Anglican Communion."
The Most Revd Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury |

Our Mission
Statement is:
"We work for the
transformation of individuals and churches and the healing
of communities and their lands through the renewing power of
the Holy Spirit. We send and receive teams worldwide on
short-term mission within the Anglican Communion." |

SOMA UK along with Crosswinds
Prayer Trust are running Pray Lambeth, an initiative to
provide email and SMS prayer briefings during the 2008
Lambeth Conference.
The Archbishop of Canterbury The Most Revd Rowan
Williams has written "I am very pleased SOMA, along
with Crosswinds, have organised this prayer
initiative during the Lambeth Conference. It is an
important time for us in the Anglican Communion and this
group of people who commit to pray for us during our
meetings will play a significant role behind the
scenes. My thanks to all who have helped to set it up."

Rooted
in Jesus
Christian discipleship course
SOMA is increasingly finding that a need expressed by
dioceses in Africa is for materials to help people grow
as disciples of Christ. To help meet this need we have
developed a discipleship course called Rooted in Jesus.
Piloted in the diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania,
this is a two year interactive course for small groups
of Christians or not-yet Christians. Based on scripture
memory, each session includes prayer, discussion and
worship. Groups are normally led by clergy or lay
leaders, and group members do not need to be literate or
to possess a Bible. Rooted in Jesus is always introduced
to a diocese through a SOMA team conference, and it is
now in use in Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda,
Mozambique, Malawi and DR Congo. Rooted in Jesus is
published by SOMA's sister organisation Resource, and
sample packs are available from
http://www.resource-arm.net/pub.html#book.
